Prenatal Massage

Nurturing Touch while you Grow your baby

Pregnancy massage is automatically included in prenatal care in most cultures around the world!  It's high time we in the West honor this practice as well!

Benefits of Prenatal Massage

  • Ease your aches and pains: back, neck, leg cramps, headaches, sore feet...
  • Reduce edema and swelling: ankles, hands, face...
  • Relieve apprehension, anxiety, stress, and insomnia; can help keep your hormones balanced and comfort you by providing nurturing relaxation.
  • Reduce fatigue by increasing oxygen flow and nutrients to the mother and the baby.
  • Increase circulation and help keep blood pressure normal by easing the load on the heart.
  • Relax and tone muscles: increase flexibility and elasticity during growth and birth processes.
  • Helps to reduce stretch marks and varicose veins.
  • Sleep easier and more deeply by soothing and releasing nerves.
  • Helps mothers have an easier delivery: research has shown women who receive pregnancy massage have a shorter, easier labor and regain strength sooner.
  • Increase bonding and attachment emotionally, mentally and physically for your family.
  • Realign and recondition your body back to its previous shape and avoid post-partum depression, sleep well, reduce stretch marks and tone your muscles.
  • Keep receiving massage after delivery to aide in weight control and recovery.

When to begin receiving prenatal massage

Nurturing prenatal massage is safe during all phases of pregnancy, therefore, you can begin as early in your pregnancy as you are comfortable.

While some clients prefer to wait until after they've entered their 2nd trimester, those who begin receiving prenatal massage during their 1st trimester often experience less symptoms of fatigue and morning sickness.

Regardless of when you begin receiving prenatal massage, your comfort and safety are my primary focus!  I use a pregnancy bolster, as well as side-laying techniques to ensure clients receive the most appropriate and pampering experience possible.

What does a Prenatal Massage entail?

For those who are new to prenatal massage, my recommendation is that we begin with a 60 minute massage, that focuses on slow, nurturing massage techniques, designed to relax the mind, body and spirit.

We can spend extra time focusing on specific areas of the body that are in need at the time, including:

  • Upper back, neck and shoulders
  • Low back and hips
  • Hands and feet (no direct, focused pressure on points known to assist in laboring)
  • Sinus points and facial massage
  • Chest and ribcage opening

We can also design our time together to ensure all of the above mentioned areas are equally nurtured.

Why come to Healing Spaces for Prenatal Massage?

As is true of all of my offerings, I have a personal passion for supporting the sacred journey into motherhood!

I experienced a beautiful pregnancy in 2015, followed by an amazing waterbirth at home with midwives, while utilizing the techniques of Hypnobirthing.  From there, I went on to grow my education in pre and postnatal massage, and am currently the Prenatal Instructor in the Massage Therapy program at COCC.

I feel confident that you can find your rejuvenation and personal empowerment here with me, within the sacred container that is Healing Spaces.
